The REASON

A lack of accounting for the human aspect and the foundational principles of marksmanship under Critical Stress is what drove the development and creation of the DEFAULT. A simple device that removes unnecessary cognitive load so the mind can prioritize more critical tasks.

"Don't confuse enthusiasm with capability."
-Old Proverb

The HUMAN ASPECT

During Critical Stress our brain's alarm system automatically triggers pre-programmed physical responses found in the oldest parts of our brain. This partially shuts down the higher brain, our conscious mind, which is responsible for planning and anticipation, sense of time and context, inhibitions of inappropriate actions, and empathetic understanding. This guaranteed physiological reaction prepares you to either flee or protect yourself in dangerous situations, known as “Fight or Flight”. Your heart rate increases and your adrenal gland releases cortisol, which curbs nonessential functions, and adrenaline, which dramatically increases energy and heart rate, removes blood from the extremities, and temporarily affects the senses and fine motor skills. The severity of this response varies greatly between individuals based on exposure to this type of stress, but it is a guaranteed physiological response.

My EXPERIENCE

Men standing in a row

Over a decade spent in the Global War on Terror (GWOT) taught me an irrefutable fact: individual preparation is the aspect of a fight you can control, the situation and the environment you find yourself in is not.

Time spent setting up your weapon, finding proper eye relief, dialing in your zero, and correcting laser points of impact are all done with your stock at your preferred set position. In “Fight or Flight” situations, precious time spent finding your stock’s preferred set position are moments taken away from getting your weapon into the fight. More often, under Critical Stress, the stock is pulled to the fully extended position or left in the fully collapsed position. Both negatively impact your zero, eye relief from optics, shooting positions, biomechanical efficiency, and ultimately survivability. The quicker you can get your weapon into fighting condition the better your chances of survival.

"An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure."
-Benjamin Franklin

The SOLUTION

The DEFAULT solves this problem by reducing cognitive load and the need for fine motor skills. A “set it and forget it” solution, simply install the DEFAULT and never think about it again. When Critical Stress arrives, grab your weapon, rip out your stock and it will stop at your preferred set position.
